OUR PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES

In order to sustain the commitment of policy makers towards South Asia Cooperation, six task force on regional issues of immediate importance were set up by SACEPS bringing together eminent south Asians as members. Each taskforces was anchored in one of the partner institutions of SACEPS which assumed responsibilities for organizing work of the task force. A board member of SACEPS headed each of the task forces which are composed of eminent policy leaders, professionals and researchers from the region. The six task forces addressed the following issues:

1. Investment Cooperation in South Asia.
2. Energy Cooperation in South Asia.
3. Issue Related to South Asia?s Strategy for the Next
    Round of WTO Negotiations.
4. the Implications of Building a South Asian Free Trade
    Area.
5. Macro-economic policies within South Asia.
6. A Citizen's Social Charter for South Asia.

The modality of work involved both research and dialogue across the region with a view to drawing in a wider constituency of people committed to concerns of the Task Forces. The Task forces have completed the studies and their reports have been widely discussed in series of regional seminars convened by SACEPS in Kathmandu, New Delhi, Colombo, Male, Dhaka and Lahore during 2003. Recommendations from these Task Force reports and the seminars have been shared with the top decision makers of SAARC and with the SAARC Secretariat.
